Q - A friend of mine has Trauma insurance. What is Trauma insurance?
A - Trauma insurance is a lump sum benefit that will pay out on a specific critical health problem. i.e. a heart attack, cancer, stroke etc. The money could be very handy to cover medical expenses, to pay off debt, to replace lost income, to pay for rehabilitation, or even to pay for treatment overseas.
Q - Will I have to complete a medical for my life or health insurance application.
A - For most people the answer is no, the Insurance company may contact your doctor in relation to an existing condition for a proper medical explanation and confirm the outcome. Medicals are usually only requested for large sums of insurance in excess of $500,000 or $1 mill depending on your age.
Q - My wife doesn't work - she stays at home to look after the kids. Why do I need insurance for her?
A - While your wife may not be being paid for the work she does, if something happens to her and you have to have home help you will need to pay for that. If it a serious problem and you need full-time help for a time that could easily cost you $3,000 a month. Unless she is insured, where is that money going to come from?
Q - I've already got medical insurance. Aren't they all much the same?
A - Some policies have limits on all the separate items of an operation and you may end up paying over half the cost of the operation and, in fact, if you need treatment for cancer and you could end up paying well over $50,000. So no, all medical insurance policies are not the same. What type is yours?
